Please join the Rotary Club of Reno Centennial Sunset and Immunize Nevada for our 13th annual Polio Purple Pinkie Trail Run on Saturday May 7, 2022 at Washoe County's Rancho San Rafael Park, located at the Peavine Pavilion! We are going to have a virtual AND in person run this year! You can choose to do the in-person 5K walk/run or 10K Run, OR a virtual walk/run from where ever you are! (Please note, the virtual option will not be tracked, this is a way to help support our cause if you can't be there in person!)
Registration for this event will close on Saturday, May 7th, 2022 at 10:00 AM PST.
The proceeds of the run will go to the Rotary Foundations Polio Plus Fund, the RCS Rotary Foundation Inc. and Immunize Nevada.
Rotary, along with our partners, has reduced polio cases by 99 percent worldwide since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979. We are close to eradicating polio, but we need your help!
Why Purple Pinkie? Every time a child is immunized, their pinkies are colored purple to show that they are safe from this crippling and deadly disease. Now with new reports of polio amongst the refugees, it continues to be of importance to help us fight. The polio cases represented by the remaining one percent are the most difficult to prevent, due to factors including geographical isolation, poor public infrastructure, armed conflict and cultural barriers. Until polio is eradicated, all countries remain at risk of outbreaks.
